10 famous viewpoints in Lisbon not to be missed

1. Senhora do Monte

Senhora do Monte is the highest viewpoint in Lisbon and one of the most emblematic, offering panoramic views of the entire city with its characteristic terracotta roofs.

Open 24 hours and with free admission, some of the best places to see from the Senhora do Monte viewpoint are the Baixa and Chiado neighborhoods, the Castle of St. George and the 25th of April Bridge. It is also one of the best places to watch the sunset over the Lisbon skyline.

2. Da Graça

The Miradouro da Graça (Gracia Viewpoint) is one of Lisbon's famous must-see viewpoints, located next to the convent of Our Lady of Grace, just a few minutes from the Castle of St. George.

In fact, the official name is the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Viewpoint, in honor of one of the most important Portuguese poets of the twentieth century, although the people of Lisbon still know it as the Gracia Viewpoint. We recommend that you sit in one of the different cafeterias to contemplate the view while you have a drink.

3. San Pedro de Alcântara

The San Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint is located in the Bairro Alto district of the city, and is especially famous for its well-kept gardens and views of the Castle and the Cathedral of Lisbon.

Our advice is to visit it at sunset, as in this way you will be able to see the illuminated St. George's Castle, which we assure you will be one of the best views of the city.

4. Portas do Sol

In the search for the best viewpoint in Lisbon, you cannot miss Das Portas do Sol, from where you will enjoy the best views of the Tagus River and the Alfama, the oldest district of the capital of Lisbon.

It is located next to the church of Santa Luzia, and in our opinion, the best time to visit it is at sunrise, especially if you are lucky enough to have a sunny and cloudless day.

5. Castelo de São Jorge

The St. George Castle viewpoint is possibly the most famous viewpoint in Lisbon, from where, in addition to visiting the castle, you can enjoy unparalleled views of the city in all directions thanks to the Da Vinci's periscope that you will find right there, fully available to visitors.

6. Jardim do Torel

Although it is not one of the best known, we highly recommend a visit to the Torel Garden viewpoint, precisely because it will be much less crowded than the rest.

Hidden in the heart of the city, very close to the Lavra elevator, from this viewpoint you will have incredible views of the Baixa, the Alto district, the Praça do Comércio or Rua Augusta.

7. Santa Luzia

The Santa Luzia viewpoint is much nicer than Porta do Sol, as it has a beautiful garden as a balcony, although it must be admitted that the views are somewhat limited. A visit to it is highly recommended, especially during the summer, as the vines provide shade to combat the high temperatures.

8. Santa Catarina

One of our favorites is the viewpoint from Santa Catarina, which in addition to spectacular views, has a very pleasant atmosphere, as it has many terraces full of people and live music.

It is near the Santa Catarina Pharmacy Museum, also known as Adamastor, a mythological character who has his own statue in this viewpoint.

9.  Capela do Santo Amaro

Hidden among narrow streets, the Chapel of St. Amaro viewpoint offers a unique perspective of the Alcântara area, with the added value of being very quiet, since it is less crowded than the other ones as it is not as famous.

10. Elevador de Santa Justa

We complete the search for the best viewing points in Lisbon with the St. Justa elevator, which is not really a viewing point, but it should be on this list as it offers one of the best views of the entire city.

It is an elevator that allows you to see the city at 42 meters high, characterized by an iron structure that has made it one of the main attractions of Lisbon.
