German Tour Operator FRS Begins Tours On The Tagus River In May

The MS "Hanseblick" is moored at the pier in Bremerhaven.

The company won a five-year tender from the Lisbon Tourism Association to operate one of eight ticket offices at a new pier on the Tagus River, located in central Lisbon.

FRS' newest subsidiary, FRS Portugal, will offer guests up to four daily round trips on the river, including a special one called "Sunset Cruise," the company said in a press release.

The river cruises intend to provide their clients "the most beautiful views of the city", in a panoramic tour that takes them to see Praça do Comércio, Arco da Rua Augusta, the 25th of April Bridge, the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology and the Monument of the Discoveries, the Lighthouse House of Belém, the Tower of Belém and the statue of Christ the King.

FRS Portugal estimates to start operating the river cruises on the 15th of May. However, it is dependent on the opening of the pier by the Lisbon Tourism Association. "We are very excited about our new river cruises as Lisbon continues to be a tourist destination , undergoing significant development in many maritime and tourism related projects," said Moritz Bruns, Director of Business and Corporate Development and Managing Director of FRS Portugal Unipessoal LDA. "With an investment of 27 million euros, the City of Lisbon, together with ATL, has completely redesigned the city center promenade including the installation of the new pier and the passenger terminal ticket offices. We are proud to be able to help shape this as FRS Portugal," said Bruns.

The motor vessel "Hanseblick" will be transported from Germany to Portugal to operate FRS Portugal cruises on the Tagus River. The 37 meter vessel has a capacity for 160 passengers and has been converted for sightseeing tours on the Tagus.
